Most dogs are loveable pets that live up to their title of 'man's best friend'. However if they are not handled correctly by their owners, they can present a very real threat to residents. Recent deaths and serious injuries caused by dangerous dogs have not only highlighted their potential danger, but heightened community unease and distrust of many breed types.
BARK aims to promote responsible dog ownership within Brent. This is done in a variety of ways:

Educational Visits
BARK believes that educating young people about dog welfare and responsible ownership is the best way to tackle antisocial behaviour involving animals and to improve the quality of animal's lives
Patrols
BARK meets on a monthly basis to undertake a patrol of the borough. The patrol's operational team consists of:
- an Animal Welfare Officer from The Mayhew who can provide advice and assistance to owners regarding welfare, behaviour and veterinary needs.
- an RSPCA Inspector who can ensure the Animal Welfare Act is being adhered to and if necessary provide an improvement notice informing owners of their legal responsibility.
- a PC and PCSO from the Met Police who offer advice on dog law and can follow up any further action that may be needed.
- an Animal Welfare Officer from Brent Council who can enforce legislation with regards to barking, fouling and dog control orders.
Each patrol involves visiting known problem areas of the borough and visiting addresses where there are possible concerns about a dogs' welfare. During the patrol, members of the public who we see with their dogs are given an information pack and offered free microchipping.
Events
BARK holds and attends events throughout the year promoting responsible dog ownership.
