If you believe you own or know a person with one of these types of dogs in the Brent area, please contact one of the partnership agencies for advice on gaining legal ownership. If you live outside of Brent, pleace contact our local Police station or contact a BARK partner for more advice.

ANY breed of dog can be dangerous.

Under Section 3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act it is an offence to allow your dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place.  An injury does not have to occur, however if there is a reasonable apprehension that the dog is a real danger to persons in the area, then an offence has been committed. Should an injury occur, this becomes a very serious matter and you should contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Should a dog injure another dog, action can be taken against the offending dog and owner.  Action can include:

  •  Written and verbal warnings
  •  A Court order for the offending dog to be muzzled and/or on a lead in specific areas.
  •  A Court order excluding the offending dog from named places.
  •  A Court order for male dogs to be neutered if it was felt this would make the dog less dangerous.
  •  Any other measures of control can be applied for by the prosecution but the decision lies with the Courts.
  •  As a last resort or if other measures fail the Courts can order the dogs destruction.
