Brent Action for Responsible K9s

The fatal attack on Ellie Lawrenson in Merseyside in January 2007 heightened national concern about dangerous dogs.  It was this tragic event that triggered Brent Council, the RSPCA, the Metropolitan Police and the Mayhew Animal Home and Brent Housing Partnership to set up BARK, London's first multi agency approach to dangerous dogs and irresponsible owners.
 
BARK proves just how successfully different agencies can work together to protect local people. BARK, Brent Action for Responsible K9's, is a unique way of promoting responsible dog ownership as well as tackling anti-social behaviour linked with the misuse of dogs and mistreatment of dogs. While protecting the public from potentially dangerous dogs remains paramount, the partnership is also keen to work with dog owners and reassure them that we are here to help.

This innovative partnership aims to:

• protect and re-assure the community by reducing the criminal and   irresponsible activities involving dogs, with the appropriate use of legislation
• educate the community on dog welfare and the implications of irresponsible dog ownership
• reduce levels of anti-social behaviour linked with the misuse of dogs
• reduce the incidents where dogs are mistreated.

This exciting initiative is leading the field in its approach to responsible dog ownership and is making a real difference in the community.
